Cell Phone Guidelines

In order to create a positive learning environment for all students, we have set cell phone protocols for Taylor Park students. We are finding that cell phones can be a source of disruption in the classroom and a safety concern on the playground. While students can carry cell phones to school, we ask that parents support our efforts for appropriate use by adhering to the following guidelines:

Storing cell phones

Students who have cell phones may either:

  1. Keep their phones off or on silent mode (not vibrate) in their backpacks;
    Cell phones should not be carried around in pockets or put down on desks, as this increases the risk of the phones being dropped, lost, stolen or used at inappropriate times.
  2. While the classroom door is kept locked and students are asked to close the door when they leave for lunch, this does not always occur. Taylor Park School is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged property. If you are concerned about loss, theft or damage, please do not send a cell phone with your child.

Using cell phones

Teachers will indicate the appropriate time for cell phone use with supervision.  This may be for monitored classroom activities.

Students are not to use their phones during school hours to make phone calls, send messages, use social media, play games or listen to music. They are not to be used during recess or lunch. Use of cell phones during these times, or times when they don’t have permission, will result in phones being given to the teacher or office for the remainder of the day. Parents may be asked to pick up phones from the office after school.

If a student has a smart watch and is using it to send or receive messages, or engage in other non-school related activities, they will be asked to turn it off.

If you need to contact your child, please call the school at 604-296-9034. Please do not send texts or phone their cell phones expecting replies during school hours.

Feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
