The Ministry of Education is working with all 60 school districts, independent school authorities, First Nations schools, public health officials, and education partners to begin a phased-in approach to the expansion of in-class learning on June 1.
Currently in B.C., about 5,000 students are in school. This includes the children of essential service workers and those who need the extra support that a school setting provides. As we move to Stage 3 of BC’s Restart Plan and more students join their peers already learning in schools, the provincial health and safety guidelines for K-12 setting (developed in collaboration with the BCTF) will be put in place. We know you may have lots of questions about this transition.
To help, the Ministry of Education has developed a FAQ web page that contains information about a variety of topics, such as health and safety measures (including resources), supports for students with disabilities and diverse abilities, as well as assessments and graduation. Make sure to visit this page regularly as it’s updated as new information becomes available.
