Class placements made and full days begin. During the gradual entry process, we will be looking at each child to determine which class they will best fit.

We are very pleased to welcome your child to Kindergarten in Burnaby. Our full day
Kindergarten program offers young children meaningful learning opportunities in a play-based
environment. For many children, Kindergarten is the first step in transitioning from preschools,
daycare settings, or home environments to a formal school setting where there is one adult with
up to 20 children.
In order to help children in this transition, we offer and support a gradual entry process, which
includes smaller groups, an increasingly longer day and an opportunity for you and your child
to have a virtual Welcoming Conversation with your child’s teacher. We have found that this
proactive approach to school entry provides a safe and comfortable start to your child’s school
Gradual Entry allows children to connect with their teacher, feel comfortable at school, make
friends, and understand routines. If you believe your child requires a longer period to transition
to a full day Kindergarten program, please discuss this with your child’s teacher so that school
staff can collaboratively plan with you to ensure your child is successful.
In response to COVID-19, the K -12 Education Restart Plan is currently in Stage 2. In Stage 2,
Kindergarten students attend in-class instruction five days per week. We will host a Virtual
Kindergarten Orientation on Thursday, September 10th or Friday, September 11th. An email
will be sent once we have confirmed the date and time next week.
We are looking forward to having your child as part of our school community.

To the Parents of Kindergarten Students Starting in September 2020,
I hope you have taken advantage of the opportunity to look at some of the orientation videos our staff has put together for you and your children. (See links in our May 22 update below)
We are looking forward to having your children start school in September 2020. As is always the case, there will be a gradual entry so that students will be able to get used to school routines and so that we can put together the right combinations of students into balanced classes.
Unfortunately, at this time there is uncertainty about what school will look like in September so the schedule we gave to you (groups A, B, C, D) is not guaranteed. We expect to receive direction from the Ministry of Education and Dr. Bonnie Henry in late August about the steps and procedures we will need to follow to maintain safety during the Covid-19 pandemic and will then be in touch. If you have any questions, you can email me: firstname.lastname@example.org or call the school office at 604-296-9034. Our office will be open August 31 – September 4th and the first day of school will be Tuesday, September 8th.
Please know that we value the safety of your children and will be making plans based on the direction of health officials and the government.
Have a great summer,
Principal – Taylor Park
